Iceland and Denmark rank as the number one and two most peaceful nations in the world according to this year’s Global Peace Index, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace. Russia ranks among Afghanistan and Iran, as the least peaceful of the 162 states in the global survey.

The Baltic States ranked in the high 30’s along with Italy and The United Kingdom.
The institute ranks 162 countries every year in terms of safety, local and international conflicts, and military engagement.
In a March 2015 op-ed that ran in Denmark’s Jyllands Posten, Russian Ambassador Mikhail Vanin threatened that Russian nuclear missiles would be targeted at Danish ships for their participation in the NATO defence shield.
