
The Copenhagen Post reports that Russian ambassador to Denmark, Mikhal Vanin, said that Danish warships will “end up as targets for Russian nuclear missiles if Denmark joins the NATO missile defence shield”.
According to the report, the ambassador said that he does “not think that the Danes fully understand the consequences if Denmark joins the US-led missile defence shield” and “if that happens, Danish warships become targets for Russian nuclear missiles.”
The ambassador threatened Denmark’s participation in the NATO defense shiled would cause it to “lose both money and security” and that Denmark would become“part of the threat to Russia and relations with Russia will be damaged”.
DANISH FOREIGN MINISTRY RESPONSE
The Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Martin Lidegaard responded, saying that “Russia knows very well that NATO’s missile defence system is defensive. We disagree with Russia on many important things, but it is important that the tone between us remains as positive as possible.”
